Styled Wedding shoot: Vintage Vineyard: Abingdon Wine Estate, KZN Midlands

4 April 2014

I’m not sure where to begin or even how to begin this post. It’s amazing how an idea you have in the back of your mind comes to fruition after a casual chat with friends and then bang – it happens. Well that’s how this Style shoot developed. Kelly Daniels, Casey and I all had the same idea. We created a pinterest board and the rest just grew into an amazing creative networking experience and culminated in the “Vintage Vineyard” Styled shoot. Our models were real people, love birds Ché and Warren and Keri & Andy. Ché is such a fascinating fun person to be around and her blog Indie Berries is even more entertaining. She is also very creative. I follow Keri’s blog Midlandsmusings, and often think wow, she is so brave. I wish I could write like her. These beauties were transformed by Kym who did a wonderful job with hair and make up. Stacey from the Love Bucket supplied some of the stunning dresses. They are not your usual wedding dress, which is what we were looking for. Stacey is also amazingly talented and was so helpful, making the “love” sign and the boutonnieres. Give her a shout if you’re planning your wedding. The cake. What can I say about this cake which smelt amazing while we were photographing it and tasted even better when we ate it at the end of the day:) Taryn, from Smiths Bake shop created the masterpiece. She made the perfect cake. Thank you Taryn! Our stationery was designed by the lovely Ladies from Glee Projects. I am always amazed at what they create. Their work is beautiful! Wedding invites, save the dates, menus and so much more – they also made the white hanging backdrop you can see in some of the photos. Thank you Tammy, from Midlands Stretch tent, with all your help in organizing things and for setting up the Nomadic Stretch tent. If you’re in doubt about the weather on your wedding day phone Tammy. We were blessed with such an amazing day – the weather was stunning and Abingdon Wine Estate, although in the middle of the Harvest, was so picturesque and peaceful. It is beautiful there and it makes for such a delightful wedding venue if you’re looking for something different. With all the going ons throughout the day – we were thankful to have Wes there from the Shank Tank to capture all the moments on video. He is truly a talented guy. Check out is fantastic video here.

Thank you to everyone involved. I am so thankful to have shared this experience with you and grateful that all of you were so willing and enthusiastic to help bring our dream to reality.

And now for some behind the scenes shots. We set everything up for the shoot and then were treated to a delicious lunch. Abingdon is so beautiful, and their wine is lovely, yes we had some wine although maybe I should’ve saved it for later as I’m not really used to drinking. One glass sent me on my merry way and really allowed me to enjoy the shoot as there were no time constraints of rushing through this shoot so the couple wouldn’t be keeping their guests waiting, like on a real wedding day. It was wonderful, fun and relaxed although a little crazy at times with 3 photographers trying to get “that” shot.

All three of us photographers have babies under a year old and all three of us have been going through similar trials and stresses, coming back into the industry after having a baby is hard. It is also hard being away from your family every weekend and missing your little baby while sharing the joy and excitement of a couple’s wedding day. Editing with babies around the office can also be challenging when they hit the key board and you’re working in Lightroom and suddenly the photo you’re editing changes to a washed out black and white image. Thankfully there is an “undo” button. Life doesn’t always work out the way we had planned for it to so Kelly’s little tot came with, as babysitting plans changed and there she was with three crazy photographer ladies, one being her mum, and a bunch of other talented people who casually passed her a long throughout the day cooching and coo-ing.
